What was definitely one of the worst days of our lives has become a wonderful opportunity for us to help others who have shared similar catastrophic loss.
Joey was leaving the house on his way to work and was stopped at the door by the sounding of a smoke alarm. Within seconds, fire was spreading throughout our home. Joey quickly woke me and by the grace of God our kids were gone that morning. As our home filled with choking smoke I scrambled and was able to round up and get most of our pets to safety.
Unfortunately, we lost our home, most of our personal belongings and a beloved family pet. Brokenhearted, we waited five long days for our insurance company and its adjuster to respond. During that long week we imposed on friends and if not for their love and caring we literally would have had only the clothes on our backs.
It took almost a month for our insurance company to offer any money what-so-ever to help us began the process of rebuilding our lives. And, almost as if to add insult to injury, the amount offered wasn't even close to what was required to rebuild and replace.
No one should have to wait that long and no one should settle for an offer that will not cover their home and their belongings. We were not going to be bullied, but felt helpless and had no idea where to turn. We had never heard of a Public Insurance Adjuster(PA), but luckily we were introduced to one from our area. After hiring our PA, almost if by magic, suddenly our insurance company gave us living expense money, responded to calls from our PA and our claim was quickly moving forward.
Ultimately, because of the efforts of our Public Adjuster we were fairly compensated for our loss receiving the policy limits of compensation for our home, contents and money for coverages we didn't even know we were entitled!
It is our personal and professional words of advice...NEVER go through a catastrophic insurance loss without Public Insurance Adjuster representation!
